Football Shirt of the Week – PSG 2020/21 Special Third Kit

Celebrating the 30 years of partnership between the club and brand, Nike launched the Paris Saint-Germain 2019/20 third shirt. Continuing the retro theme that has run throughout Nike’s third kits throughout their partnership, the PSG shirt draws influence from the club’s 1989/90 look.

it was officially unveiled on the eve of PSG’s French top flight clash against Strasbourg. Somewhat bizarrely, it was also worn by the Parisians during their Champions League opener against Real Madrid at Parc des Princes- the home side wore their white third kit while the away side wore a blue change uniform!

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) football club had a relatively successful season in 2019/20, winning several domestic titles but falling short in the UEFA Champions League.

In Ligue 1, the French domestic league, PSG finished as champions for the third consecutive year, with 68 points from 27 games played. They won 22 games, drew two, and lost three, scoring 75 goals and conceding just 24.

In the Coupe de France, the main domestic cup competition, PSG reached the final but was unable to defend their title, losing 2-1 to Stade Rennais.

In the Coupe de la Ligue, another domestic cup competition, PSG were crowned champions, defeating Lyon 6-5 on penalties in the final.

However, the club’s biggest disappointment came in the UEFA Champions League, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Borussia Dortmund. PSG won one game and lost one against Dortmund, but was unable to progress to the quarter-finals on aggregate score.

Individually, PSG had some standout performers, including Kylian Mbappé, Neymar, and Angel Di Maria, who all had impressive seasons. However, the team’s overall performance was somewhat inconsistent, and there were some concerns about their defensive vulnerabilities at times.

Overall, while winning the domestic league and cup double was a notable achievement, PSG’s failure to progress further in the Champions League left a sour taste for the fans and the club, and there was a sense that they had fallen short of their potential in that competition.
